A computer language is a method of communication with a computer. Types of computer languages include:

Construction language, all forms of communication by which a human can specify an executable problem solution to a computer

Command language, a language used to control the tasks of the computer itself, such as starting other programs
Configuration language, a language used to write configuration files
Programming language, a formal language designed to communicate instructions to a machine, particularly a computer

Markup language, a grammar for annotating a document in a way that is syntactically distinguishable from the text, such as HTML

Modeling language, an artificial language used to express information or knowledge, often for use in computer system design

Hardware description language, used to model integrated circuits

Page description language, describes the appearance of a printed page in a higher level than an actual output bitmap

Query language, a language used to make queries in databases and information systems

Simulation language, a language used to describe simulations

Specification language, a language used to describe what a system should do

Style sheet language, a computer language that expresses the presentation of structured documents, such as CSS

Transformation language, designed to transform some input text in a certain formal language into a modified output text that meets some specific goal.

The computer language is defined as code or syntax which is used to write programs or any specific applications. The computer language is used to communicate with computers. Broadly the computer language can be classified into three categories assembly language, machine language, and high-level language.

Machine Level Language

Computer can understand only the language of Digital Electronics. Digital Electronics deals with presence and absence of voltages. Within the computer there are two logic can play their role. These logic are ?

Positive Logic Here presence of voltage will be denoted by 1 and absence of voltage will be denoted by 0
Negative Logic Here presence of voltage will be denoted by 0 and absence of voltage will be denoted by 1

But obviously computer can follow anyone of the logic at a time, not both the logic simultaneously. To make the computer understand, a program can be written using only 0s and 1s. The data can also be specified and represented using only 0s and 1s. Such a program is called Machine Language program. Machine language was the first in the evolution of computer programming languages. Computer directly understands a program written in the machine language. So as a result, machine language program does not require any translator to convert from one form to another. In fact, even to this day, basically computers understand only the 0s and 1s.

The total number of computer languages to exist is approximately 9,000, though there are 50 that are the most popular programming languages in use today.
